Better Than Coffee and Donuts

There’s something about how the Asian community does food that really brings everyone together.

We just got an email with details about our annual summer camping trip with our Korean Catholic community, and it makes me remember this pot of kimchi chigae (kimchi stew) from last year. Comfort food to the max.

At the Korean church throughout various parts of the year, there is a lot of organization that goes behind creating rotations to cook massive amounts of food for families to share lunch together after CM classes. Korean stews, bulgogi (korean bbq beef), pan-fried fish… always with a side of rice and kimchi.

There’s a deepening of relationship that comes in the lingering after mass and continuing staying after CM. There’s something that happens in the regular sharing of a meal together.

It’s just not the same as donuts and coffee.
